Look Amma, I am joining the Hindu

Amma has seldom felt proud of me and my little achievements. Though I did do well for myself in school and college, it was always overshadowed by the bigger achievements in the family.

I have been happy with this arrangement. Unlike T Anna, I am not burdened with unrealistic expectations at least.

Appa was faintly indulgent towards my desire to be a journalist. Amma was a bit worried. Is this what Asal Tamizh Penn’s do, she wondered. But she had taken a special fondness for the super fake and immensely irritating Barkha Dutt and so she did have visions that I might also hug children who have been victims of an earthquake and look tragically into the camera.

But I have done better for myself. I am going to be working for – The Hindu. I start work from next week. I will meet insanely boring Iyengar men. But for once, Amma is happy. And inspite of myself, I can’t help the warm fuzzy feeling that parental appreciation leaves you with.

Orey, the Thamizh lous already. The sisterhood admits another member into their fold, it appears. But a worth addition only, it seems, to a neutral bystander.

That is a very funny line. Hope you finally met a lot of men with very high sense of humor.

Our Bharat is the only place people can use the word NO and make a statement out of that like ..."no ......nnno....nononono...nonnoooo" , specially when people want to deny us something.
