I'm happy I did and it's touching. I liked the refreshing frankness with which you have narrated the ill-explained "taboos" that most orthodox brahmin girls grow up with. I'm sure you want to meet P again...
Keep writing.

Cheers

"Saathigal irandadi paappaa..."
My Telugu poet friend wrote something more:
"Jagatilona jaatulu rendE, yenchi chUda rendU okatE; IvvAlani lEni vAdu, IvvadAniki lEni vAdu..."
(There are only those who don't want to give and those who don't have anything to give...)Avvaippaattihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17473389977445205414noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-572834389284181191.post-82139283919926686652007-10-25T20:00:00.000+05:302007-10-25T20:00:00.000+05:30"if I didn’t give the Karupatti Paniyaram adequate..."if I didn’t give the Karupatti Paniyaram adequate chance."

that was a nice touch...you write well when you are non-funny too..frisskohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15294432117800467706noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-572834389284181191.post-24278214691328186912007-06-06T03:50:00.000+05:302007-06-06T03:50:00.000+05:30You do have a wonderful way of writing, very refre...You do have a wonderful way of writing, very refreshing. You should prolly quit "The anti-Hindu" and concentrate more on this. :)

On the 3-day no work thing, I think that kinda was to help the woman not take on too many tasks during the most difficult time of the month, although our execution of that left a lot to be desired. I am sure married women with 3 kids would love to have 3 days of rest and not worry about cooking and cleaning all the time (in those days).

BTW, if you think you and P don't have anything in common anymore, wait till you get married and have kids again. Your friendship might bloom again!

BTW, you know this story can be easily written into a nice screenplay and made into a movie......Prabuhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17520731248275800269noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-572834389284181191.post-46116568142819626412007-06-04T21:30:00.000+05:302007-06-04T21:30:00.000+05:30wow.cane chairs that left a criss-cross of marks ...wow.

cane chairs that left a criss-cross of marks :) I remember those!

just curious - the iyengarish school - was it psbb?

-K.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-572834389284181191.post-31241082210833867902007-06-04T20:54:00.000+05:302007-06-04T20:54:00.000+05:30True. It is close to the Carnatic Raagam Dharmavati.
But you know, even MS sang bhajans in Madhuvanthi.
Nallator Veenai is also set to that raagam. So if it worked for Subramania Bharathi I am guessing it fits Tamizhness also. There is also, Kanda Naal Mudalaii, almost sublime as an instrumental piece.
Anyway, I thought, music transcended borders?
